The eSATA interface is provided as protection against USB Threats or where USB is disabled as a security policy. 

This CipherShield encryption model features single-factor authentication with a single key. Smart Insert with CipherKey allows you to secure data with Mode 0 intelligent key insertion. In Mode 0, the key must remain plugged in while powered on to remain authenticated and decrypted. Suitable when human insertion of the key is not feasible such as at a data center or remote location. When the key is removed, the drive is unauthenticated and all data within the drive are no longer decrypted.
